Vulnerability Scorecard of the Quilca Chili Basin

The Vulnerability Scorecard of the Quilca Chili Basin is structured around the ten essential aspects to achieve resilient basins, identified from the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction of the United Nations Office for the Reduction of Risk Disaster (UNISDR). This survey is designed to collect the initial information needed to complete the Scorecard, so it has the same structure. The information obtained will be an important input for the validation of information in a results workshop soon.

About the methodology "Vulnerability Scorecard"

El Scorecard of Vulnerability of the Quilca Chili Basin is structured around the ten essential aspects to achieve resilient basins, identified from the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction ( UNISDR). This survey is designed to gather the initial information necessary to complete the Scorecard, so it has the same structure. The information obtained will be an important input for the validation of information in a results workshop soon.

The term resilience refers to the ability of people, communities, companies and systems within a watershed to survive, adapt and grow, regardless of the types of chronic stresses and acute impacts they experience. Chronic stresses are considered those factors that weaken the structure of a basin daily or cyclically. These can be: unemployment, poverty and inequality, environmental pollution, drought and water scarcity, insecurity and violence, economic instability, and deforestation, as examples. The acute impacts are sudden and sudden events that threaten a basin, such as floods, earthquakes, forest fires, terrorism, pandemics, among others.

Resilience to climate change as used in the Scorecard, refers particularly to possible events that could be considered as acute impacts. Includes: the basins' ability to understand the disaster risk they face; the possibility and ability to mitigate these risks; and the response to disasters that may occur to minimize human losses, damage to lifestyles, economic losses (heritage and infrastructure), interruption of economic activities and environmental impacts. However, it should be considered that resilience to climate change is also affected by the chronic tensions that exist in the basin.
